MEET MS. PEREZ

MS. CAROLINA PEREZ is in her first year of teaching at East Union Middle School and Forest Hills High School. In May 2012, Ms. Perez graduated summa cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor's of Music degree. Upon graduation, Ms. Perez was awarded the prestigious "Thomas J. Stone Award for Most Outstanding Musicianship."

While at UNCG, Ms. Perez performed with several ensembles, including the UNCG Wind Ensemble, Casella Sinfonietta, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, Trumpet Ensemble, and the Triad Brass Quintet. Ms. Perez enjoys playing the trumpet, and she looks forward to performing with the Winthrop Carolinas Wind Orchestra this year!

Ms. Perez was awarded the North Carolina Teaching Fellows scholarship in 2008. This scholarship helped Ms. Perez gain invaluable classroom experiences starting her freshman year. During her time at UNCG, Ms. Perez worked with several middle school and high school bands in Guilford, Randolph, and Forsyth counties. She also spent four years working as a brass and marching tech with the Cary High School and Millbrook High School marching bands. It was through these teaching experiences that Ms. Perez realized her passion for teaching band to middle school and high school students.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Perez enjoys traveling! Most recently, Ms. Perez has traveled to St. Lucia, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Mexico, Italy, and Chile. She hopes one day to make it to Greece, Australia, Brazil, France, Egypt, China, and Ireland.
